Benidorm briefs the hotel sector on the upcoming proof of concept for the European Digital Identity
Five hotel groups express interest in hosting the pilot, an initiative promoted by BeCiTi and developed by SIPCA
Benidorm is moving forward with the proof of concept for the new European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet) in hotels across the city. The initiative is part of the second Open Innovation Challenge organised by BeCiTi, the Smart Tourism Innovation Centre promoted by Benidorm City Council, and will be developed by technology company SICPA. A meeting was held this morning to explain to potential participants exactly what the proof of concept will involve and how it will be carried out.
The meeting was attended by Councillor for Innovation Aida García Mayor, Hosbec Executive Director Mayte García, representatives of SICPA, municipal technicians and five hotel groups that have expressed an interest in testing the technology at their establishments in Benidorm. The operations and IT managers of these hotel chains took part in the meeting to learn how the European Digital Identity pilot is expected to be implemented and subsequently assess whether it is compatible with the solutions currently used by their establishments.
The Councillor for Innovation explained that “today’s information meeting addressed all the key aspects required to carry out this proof of concept in Benidorm. It will allow us to assess, in a real-world setting, how this technology can be integrated into everyday hotel processes, such as guest registration, helping to speed up procedures, reduce waiting times and simplify the operation of establishments, while always ensuring that users remain in control of their personal data.”
Promoted by the European Union, the future European Digital Identity Wallet will allow citizens to have a secure and verifiable digital identity for accessing public and private services, sharing only the information they need under their own control and consent, and completing procedures more easily and securely.
Its rollout over the coming years will open up new opportunities to improve processes in areas such as tourism, mobility and public administration.
