The clearing and preparation of the plot will involve the removal of 160,000 cubic meters of earth, which will be used to regenerate the Racó de l'Infern quarry.
Benidorm begins the construction of the athletics track in Poniente
The construction of the new Benidorm athletics track has already begun with the preparation of the land for the location of the future sports infrastructure on a plot of the Partial Plan 2/1 Poniente. The machinery is already on the ground and the first work has already begun.
For this reason, the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, visited the works this morning, accompanied by the Councilor for Urban Planning, Lourdes Caselles, and the councillor for Sports, Javier Jordá, along with those in charge of the development company. TM Real Estate Group and the company that undertakes the work, Grupo Bertolín.
The materials that will be extracted from this plot will be used to undertake the recovery of Racó de l'Infern quarry, in Serra Gelada Natural Park. To do this, it is estimated that around 160,000 cubic meters of earth will be moved from the plot over the six months that the clearing and preparation of the land will take.
Once this phase is completed, the construction of the athletics track will begin, “which will be perfectly approved and will be able to host any type of athletic competition that takes place in a facility of these characteristics,” said the mayor.
Toni Pérez has also highlighted that the new track was born "with all the ambition to provide a great service to athletics and to those who go to practice sports", in addition to the objective of "bringing competitions that long ago left Benidorm." With this infrastructure, the mayor said, “We will recover the lost reference and we will do it at an incredible level.”
The execution of the infrastructure will take approximately a year and a half from the moment the earthworks have begun. The financing will be made from the approved Interior Reform Plans (PRI) of the Poniente sector and the Poseidón hotel. In that sense, it is worth remembering that both the agreements and the social utility of the athletics track were approved unanimously in plenary session.
As has been said, the future infrastructure will be located on a large plot of land for sports use in the partial plan, also close to a large public parking lot. "With all this, we are generating services in this area," said the mayor, who has also highlighted the "important tourist attraction that the facility will have, the little impact on the environment and the territory and its perfect fit within the urban planning, in addition, to satisfying a demand from many Benidorm athletes.”
