Antonio López Football Fields in Benidorm have hosted the celebration of the football tournament tribute to Marcos Orts Devesa that whistled the match Atlético de Benidorm against Alicante ECF, which ended with a score of 3 to 1 in favour of the locals.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, together with the Councilor for Sports, Mariló Cebreros, and other members of the Municipal Corporation did not want to miss the tribute to Marcos Orts Devesa, Marcos, a forward in Hércules FC for six seasons who, thanks to his goals, he was promoted to the Second Division of national football in 1970. Marcos was affectionately known by the fans as “the Plumber”.

Before the match, Marcos received shirts from the teams in which he played, the Atlético Benidorm shirt, signed by the players, was given to him by his grandchildren. Likewise, the mayor presented him with a commemorative plaque for having made the city known where he exhibited his game.

Orts Devesa was born in 1946 in Benidorm, in the neighbourhood of El Campo, near the port. He debuted as a youth at Villajoyosa and very soon moved up to the first team. In 1965 he played with Benidorm FC and then was promoted to the Third Division. In 1967 Benicarló required his services, but his excellent performance put him in the sights of the Hércules.

In 1973 he returned to Benidorm to work for the club. Marcos hung up his boots in 1977 after one last season in La Nucía playing in Third Regional. After his sports stage, Marcos Orts Devesa worked as a carpenter in the Technical Services of Benidorm City Council, where he retired a long time ago.
