Benidorm awards SECE the contract for the installation of two new charging points in Levante
The project is financed with European funds and has a construction period of three months
The Local Governing Board of Benidorm City Council has awarded the contract for the installation of electric vehicle charging points in Levante area to the company Sociedad Española de Construcciones Eléctricas S.A. (SECE). The estimated value of the contract at the start of the bidding process was €106,618.55, and after analysing the bids received, it was awarded for €96,576.05.
The charging point installation project is included in the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan, Action 12 ‘Benidorm Vision 360’. It is financed with European Next Generation EU funds and is associated with the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan within the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan.
The project, whose contract was awarded through a standard and simplified open bidding process, includes the installation of two electric vehicle charging points with a total power of 80 kW. These points will be equipped with two CCS Combo 2 (FF) sockets, configured for 1x80 kW / 2x40 kW and charging mode 4, allowing for fast and semi-fast charging of up to four electric vehicles simultaneously.
These new charging points will be installed on Avenida de Juan Fuster Zaragoza, near Rincón de Loix Municipal branch, and on Filipinas Avenue at its intersection with Calle Gerona. The construction period will be three months from the date of the site handover report.
The Councillor for Mobility, Francis Muñoz, recalled that “the installation of electric vehicle charging points is one of the actions included in Benidorm Electric Mobility Plan (MOVELE),” which was approved by the full council on December 26, 2022. This strategic document analyses and integrates the various sustainable development plans approved in the municipality in recent years (PMUS, PES, PTUS, PACC, and PACES).
Among the Plan's objectives, Muñoz specified, are “increasing the penetration of electric vehicles in municipal and business fleets, creating an optimal charging infrastructure, and achieving a minimum penetration of 2.5% of new vehicle registrations in the municipal fleet.” In this context, the City Council has set as a priority the “progressive deployment of a charging infrastructure, offering residents and visitors the possibility of charging their vehicles using fast and semi-fast chargers, in line with our objectives of sustainability, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction,” the councilor stated.
According to Muñoz, the project will allow for “the expansion and improvement of the municipal electric vehicle charging infrastructure, the promotion of electric mobility, the reduction of transport-related emissions, improved energy efficiency, and enhanced tourism competitiveness for Benidorm as a destination committed to sustainability and the energy transition.”
