Benidorm awards new four-year contract for the maintenance of ornamental fountains worth €613,973
The contract includes the fountain in Plaza de Neptuno and a €75,000 improvement to bring the fountains along the AP-7 and Avenida Europa into the service
Benidorm City Council’s Local Government Board has awarded the contract for the maintenance and upkeep of the city’s ornamental fountains to Aquambiente, Servicios para el sector del Agua, SAU, which received the highest score from the municipal technical staff.
The contract, awarded through a simplified open tender procedure, will run for four years and has a total budget of €613,973.36, equivalent to an annual amount of €153,493.34. The new contract includes significant improvements, including the maintenance and repair of some of the municipality’s main fountains, specifically those located at the city entrance from the AP-7 and on Avenida Europa.
In the case of the AP-7 fountain, the improvements include the replacement of the mechanical and electrical equipment —a pump, starter and dosing system— as well as the renewal of the electrical control panel, with a budget of €25,000. At the Avenida Europa fountain, the works will include replacing the pipework of the fountain’s ornamental structure, the rings and jets, adapting the nozzles, and replacing the solenoid valves and jet pumping system, for €50,000.
José Ramón González de Zárate, Councillor for the Water Cycle, described the award as “excellent news” and highlighted the two improvements included in the tender, “which will allow them to operate more efficiently and be managed more effectively.” The councillor explained that, given the scale of the work required for both improvements, “the works will be carried out during the scheduled maintenance shutdown in January, when a full inspection will be undertaken.” For the Avenida Europa fountain, the basin will need to be completely drained.
The Councillor for the Water Cycle said these are “important improvements for the city’s image, right at the entrance to Benidorm from the Levante side.” He also stressed that under the new contract, “the fountains in all the neighbourhoods will continue to be maintained, while some new ones will also be included, such as the one in Plaza de Neptuno, which has already been in operation for a couple of years and will now be incorporated into this contract.”
