Benidorm aprueba el proyecto para la instalación de nuevos puntos de recarga rápida y semirrápida de vehículos eléctricos en Levante

The Local Governing Board of Benidorm City Council approved this morning the project to install fast and semi-fast charging points for electric vehicles in the Levante area. This initiative has a budget of €129,008.45, according to the proposal submitted by the Councillor for Mobility, Francis Muñoz.

This project will be financed with Next Generation EU funds and is part of Benidorm's 2022 Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD), specifically included under action ID: 4 – Energy Efficiency Improvement.

The installation of electric vehicle charging points is one of the actions included in Benidorm's Electric Mobility Plan (MOVELE), which was approved by the full council on December 26, 2022. This strategic document analyses and integrates the various sustainable development plans approved in the municipality in recent years (PMUS, PES, PTUS, PACC, and PACES).

The MOVELE Plan is structured around four lines of action, including the promotion of charging infrastructure. This includes, among other things, planning charging points for the entire municipality, channelling subsidies to develop this infrastructure, developing regulations for it, and expanding charging points in hotels.

The Plan's objectives include increasing the penetration of electric vehicles in municipal and business fleets, creating an optimal charging infrastructure, and achieving a minimum penetration of 2.5% of new vehicle registrations in the municipality. In this context, the City Council has set as a priority the “progressive deployment of a charging infrastructure, offering residents and visitors the possibility of charging their vehicles using fast and semi-fast chargers, in line with the sustainability, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction objectives we are pursuing,” stated the Councillor for Mobility, Francis Muñoz.

The works established in the approved project include the installation of two charging points with a total power of 80 kW, equipped with two CCS Combo 2 (FF) type sockets, with a 1x80 kW / 2x40 kW configuration and charging mode 4. Furthermore, as Muñoz specified, the project budget includes “the installation costs themselves, as well as the procedures to guarantee the viability of the electricity supply.”

According to Muñoz, the execution of the project will allow "the expansion and improvement of the municipal infrastructure for charging electric vehicles, the promotion of electric mobility, the reduction of emissions associated with transport, the improvement of energy efficiency and the improvement of the tourist competitiveness of Benidorm as a destination committed to sustainability and the energy transition."
