Benidorm and Mundomar are organizing this Saturday a day of cleaning the seabed in the Castell cliff area

Benidorm y Mundomar organizan este sábado una jornada de limpieza de fondos marinos en la zona del acantilado del Castell

The Department of the Environment of Benidorm City Council and Mundomar Foundation have organised a seabed clean-up day for this coming Saturday, September 7, which will take place from the beginning of Levante Beach in Torrejó to Mal Pas, covering the entire area of the Castell cliff, a place with difficult access.

The day, which is being held to mark International Diver's Day, will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will be attended by divers from the Mundomar Foundation, the Fire Department, the region and volunteers. The Councillor for the Environment and Beaches, Mónica Gómez, indicated at the presentation of the initiative that the aim is to "make known the importance of caring for the seabed, the beaches, not leaving objects, etc."

To this end, there will be environmental workshops led by an educator who will explain to attendees everything that will be done during the day and will raise awareness of the need to keep the coast clean. This initiative will also have the collaboration and support of the Local Police and the concessionaire of the beaches, R. A. Benidorm.

Gómez has encouraged “everyone and especially the youngest to come and see how this day unfolds and learn first-hand the importance of caring for the sea”.

For his part, Javier Sánchez, from Mundomar Foundation, has detailed that in the workshops “the youngest will be shown that many things can be made, such as toys, with what is collected from the sea”. Sánchez has recalled that a few years ago they also carried out another cleaning day, in this case in Rincón de Loix, “in which we took out from the bottom quite a few objects, belongings, bags, plastics, etc.”.

Mónica Gómez, finally, has recalled that Benidorm beaches have a comprehensive system that cleans the sands several times a day. “But this type of event also helps to preserve underwater flora and fauna in places that are not easily accessible and require more specialized personnel, such as divers.”
