Benidorm and Casa del Mediterráneo announce the Third International Environmental Journalism Award

The contest, is celebrated in Benidorm in November. The award is intended for professionals who have conducted and published an important work in the field of environmental information in the Mediterranean during the years 2012 and 2013.

Agustín Navarro thanked Casa del Mediterráneo "the effort made with this city" and said it is "an honor to participate in the organization of this award." The mayor stressed the importance for Benidorm of developing environmental and sustainability values. " It is important and especially for this city sustainable tourism."

Almudena Muñoz stated that the purpose of this award is to "create strategies and programs that contribute to promote the conservation and protection of the natural environment and biodiversity, and especially get a social awareness about the Mediterranean sea."

There are four award categories: print, radio, TV and blog. The content should focus on the description of the ecological values ​​of the Mediterranean, the environmental problems affecting the same or the measures taken to solve these problems and move towards sustainable development of the region. The topics will focus on water scarcity and desertification, combating climate change, natural disaster prevention, waste management, conservation and protection of biodiversity and sustainable tourism .
The prize is worth 3,797 euros.

Before the presentation of the event, the City Council and Casa Mediterráneo have signed a collaboration agreement for the organization of the event.
