The Associació de Penyes ‘Verge del Sofratge’ celebrates its 35th birthday

The Associació de Penyes ‘Verge del Sofratge’ is celebrating its thirty-fifth birthday today. 35 years after the birth of what is the largest social group in Benidorm, in which more than 4,500 people participate.

The anniversary events have begun at 8.00 in the morning with a collective breakfast and a parade to Casa del Fester. From there, the members of the clubs have gone to the Church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna where a mass has been celebrated. After the religious act, parade to the rhythm of 'xirimita and tabal' and at 11.00 the Musical Society La Nova of Benidorm has performed a concert in honor of the Association. The morning has continued with various activities aimed at children, musical performances and a magic show.

Already in the afternoon, on Paseo de Colón, the Association has paid tribute to its former presidents and the current one, Coly Pérez, has imposed a commemorative badge on an event in which the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, and other corporate partners; the president of the Comissió de Festes Majors Patronals, Roberto Carretero; and the queens, Marina Carrillo and Paula Mayor.

Toni Pérez has addressed the club memebres to thank them for the work they have done during these 35 years and for having known how to keep the party "always alive". The mayor has also had a memory "for the members of the clubs who are no longer among us" and has encouraged attendees to continue striving because "in less than 60 days, Benidorm will live the fiestas it deserves."

After the event, a spectacular anniversary cake was distributed among the attendees in which the posters of the Festes Majors Patronals reproduced with caramel appeared. The events of the 35th anniversary of the Associació de Penyes have continued during the afternoon with musical performances and will end at 1.30 a.m. with a ‘correfoc’ that will leave from Paseo de Colón.
