Toni Pérez is committed to research to "achieve the eradication" of breast cancer in the near future
Anémona solidarity march brings together more than 6,000 people in Benidorm
The solidarity march of Anémona (Mana Cancer Women's Self-Help Group of Benidorm), has gathered in its nineteenth edition more than 6,000 people who, in this way, have shown their firm support for the fight against this disease.
After 10:00 in the morning, the march began from Plaza de Sus Majestades Los Reyes de España. There, the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, led the institutional delegation that was also attended by the national deputy, Agustín Almodóbar, and the provincial deputy, José Ramón González de Zárate.
Anémona and its president, María Botella, were also accompanied on this big day by representatives of associations and social groups, such as the adult and child queens of Festes Majors Patronals, Aila Merenciano and Clhoe D'Hebroodt; or the president of the Comissió, José Vicente Fuster and, above all, thousands of people who "support Anémona anonymously -in the words of the Councilor for Equality-, allow women and their families to face the disease with greater guarantees of success".
For his part, Toni Pérez showed his solidarity with the association and emphasized that "the City Council will continue to collaborate with Anémona in the fight against breast cancer, now that it is celebrating its first twenty years, and in the future". "We must work -he added- from the public administrations so that there is progress in the investigation and its eradication is achieved in the near future".
It must be remembered that this disease "affects 144 women out of every 100,000 in Spain," said the mayor, as reported on the 19th, International Breast Cancer Day, by the Spanish Network of Cancer Registries (REDECAM) and the Medical Oncology Spanish Society (SEOM).
The march, to the rhythm of batucada, travelled, in just under an hour and a quarter, the initial 4.5 km, to Paseo de Tamarindos, passing through Paseo de la Carretera, Parque de Elche, Armada Española, and Avenida de Vicente Lorca Alós. After hydrating, the participants came to the starting point. The party continued with more exercise, with Anémona's 'Zumbathon', and to regain strength, rice tasting, offered by the restaurants that have participated in Benidorm Gastronomic Rice Days.
