For the first time there will be morning and evening washdowns
50 operators will reinforce the cleaning in summer season in Benidorm
New tender. Neighbors can decide "how they want the city to be cleaned"
The councilman of Street Cleaning, José Ramón González de Zárate, has announced today the incorporation of 50 new reinforcement workers in the street services, starting on Monday, July 1. Also, from this same date, the nighttime washdowns will be increased with the addition of two extra tanks "apart from the two that are already working", with which Benidorm will have "three or four nightly washdowns every day".
González de Zárate has indicated that they will act especially "in the areas that have more people," specifically in the walks of Levante and Poniente, Downtown, the area of El Castell and large avenues. Interventions on rural roads, parks and parking will also be reinforced.
In the morning they will serve "all the vehicles: the 'hydro', the builders and the sweepers". The councilor has specified that a special effort will be made "to fight against the 'bolseo'" of tourists who do not know how the cleaning of the city works and "leave their bags in the litter bins on the beachfront".
During the afternoons, the washdown service will go from the usual four or six operators to 15 or 16, so for the first time "we will have a 24-hour day".
Performance by neighborhoods
The programming of the Department of Street Cleaning contemplates that a special brigade, composed of about eight people, goes through all the neighborhoods of Benidorm to "perform deep bathing". In the first place, "next week" will be intervened in the Rincón de Loix, to then transfer the service to other areas of the city, alternatively. A plan that does not contemplate "inconvenience the neighbors breaking their usual routine" but will be adapted to the needs of each of the areas.
González de Zárate has asked for the cooperation of citizens, especially those who have pets. "We calculate," he said, "that in the city there may be between 14 and 15,000 dogs, the street is like our house and if our animal dirties our home, surely we will clean it, so in the street we must do the same".
Tender this summer
José Ramón González de Zárate has indicated that the municipal government team is already working on the specifications of the new road cleaning contract that should be signed soon. The councillor has stated that "we do not want summer to pass without a tender". In this sense, he has announced that it will be "a very participatory list [of conditions]" in which neighbors will be able to contribute their opinion because "we want citizens to tell us how they want the city to be cleaned", he concluded.
