Mr Sergi Castillo Prats
Born in Cocentaina (1978) he is a journalist and teacher. He graduated in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Valencia, pursuing higher studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He is a teacher of the Valencian language, issued by the Generalitat Valenciana, and a Music teacher, issued by the Conservatory of Valencia.
In his work as a journalist in Benidorm, it is worth highlighting his work in El País newspaper, the Efe agency, Información newspaper, Canfali newspaper, Radio Sirena Cope and Noticias Benidorm. During 2014 and 2015, he was the head of the Communication department at Benidorm City Council. He has collaborated in several documentaries and television programs in which he has defended the so-called 'Benidorm model', such as 'El hombre que embotelló el sol', 'Ciudades desaparecidas' or 'Tierras de Cine'. He has published numerous articles and reports about the history and traditions of Benidorm. In 2023 he was the president of the Town Charter on its 998th anniversary.
It is worth highlighting his work as an investigative journalist in Valencia. He has published three books, one of which, 'Los Yonquis del dinero', has been brought to the theatre by Pot de Plom company. The Valencian Journalists Association awarded him the "Josep Torrent" scholarship in 2018 for his work La Batalla de la sanidad Valenciana, which was published by Alfonso el Magnánimo Institution. He has participated as an expert on Valencian corruption in various national and international media giving lectures. He has also advised the Valencian Congress of Deputies on this matter. In 2017, the member associations of the Spanish Pact Against Corruption proposed him for the direction of the Anti-Fraud Agency of the Valencian Community.
Since 2021 he has been a civil servant of the Regional government and professor of Valencian Language and Literature at the IES Bernat de Sarrià in Benidorm.
In 2021 he published his fourth book, "Operació AVL. El pacte lingüístic dels valencians", from which he developed his thesis at the University of Alicante, under the direction of Professor Rafael Alemany Ferrer. One of the works derived from this research was recognized in 2022 with the “Joaquim Garcia Girona” award.
