Hundreds of people take part in a colourful parade organised by the Clubs Association

Well-prepared and original costumes and the desire for Carnival can overcome the rain in Benidorm

09 March 2025
Carnaval

The period dresses of ‘Noticias de moda’ win the group prize, and a fantasy ‘Hermes’ obtains the highest score in the individual category

Hundreds of people took to the streets of the downtown area last night, braving the gentle but constant rain that fell on the city, to enjoy the night of Carnival. Well-prepared and original costumes and the desire to party succeeded in celebrating the Carnival, and the rain finally gave them a little respite so they could show off their fantasy costumes. The parade left shortly after 9 pm from Venus Street and went around streets in the city centre until it reached the Town Hall square, where the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez; the Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros; and numerous members of the local government, emulating the protagonists of the mythical 'Grease', applauded the costumes of residents and members of the club from the official stand, where the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals 2025, Paula Pascual Sánchez and Aitana Pérez Guitiérrez, and their courts of honour were also present; the president of the Associació de Penyes Verge del Sofratge, Jonathan López; and the president of the members of the Fiestas Committee, Susana Martínez.

Precisely, the queen of les Festes Majors Patronals and their court of honor were in charge of opening the parade with beautiful Egyptian costumes, after which the members of the Comissió de Festes and their president paraded, all in black tunics that barely allowed them to be recognized. Next in order were the participants in the individual competition, which each year gains in quality and level; finally, the clubs and groups of friends registered in the adult competition, who brought out around thirty proposals with great originality and work.

Forest fairies, film and animation characters, mythological or fantasy beings, elements of nature, games such as Parcheesi, hand-made period costumes, fireworks, marine animals, futuristic dolls or apostles and saints in their calendars were some of the costumes that filled the streets with colour and that, afterwards, enjoyed the party organised by the Associació de Penyes and which lasted well into the night.

The period dresses and costumes from ‘Noticias de moda’ won the first prize in the group category, which this year awarded a total of eight prizes. The second prize went to ‘La naturaleza y sus creatividades’, followed by the costumes from ‘Vaya banda’, ‘Les dames de la llum’, ‘Star Wars’, ‘Cobra Queen y sus serpientes’, ‘Las ovejas derailladas’ and ‘Dichosos los ojos’.

As regards the individual category, the awards of the night went to ‘Hermes’, which was the proposal with the highest scores from the jury, followed by ‘Fire Dragon’ and ‘Paper Recycling’, which came in second and third place, respectively.

The awards were presented by the mayor, the Councillor for Festivals, the queens of les Festes and the presidents of Penyes and Comissió, as well as a large group of children’s ladies who accompanied them on stage. Toni Pérez and Mariló Cebreros applauded “the quality of all the costumes, which makes Benidorm Carnival continue to improve every year and are another attraction to come and enjoy our city”.
