Social Welfare receives 150,000 euros from the Provincial Council to help vulnerable families

Bienestar Social recibe 150.000 euros de la Diputación para ayudar a familias vulnerables

Benidorm City Council has received a grant of 150,000 euros from the Provincial Council of Alicante to reinforce the attention that the Benidorm City Council provides to families and groups in the city in a vulnerable situation. The Councillor for Social Welfare, Ángela Zaragozí, explained that “this grant is part of the call for grants for social benefits for extraordinary situations launched by the provincial institution” and that it “complements the care and aid programmes that the City Council works on throughout the year”.

Ángela Zaragozí explained that “with this line of aid, the Alicante Provincial Council joins the efforts made by the Department of Social Welfare to deal with the situations of need that may arise from the residents of Benidorm who are going through moments of difficulty and vulnerability; a budgetary effort with which we contribute to ensuring that all these people have decent living conditions”.

According to the terms of the call, these funds can provide aid to guarantee vulnerable families sufficient income to ensure the coverage of their basic needs. These include the purchase of food, hygiene and cleaning products, diapers or school supplies, as well as the payment of the rent of the home or the electricity and water bill "thus offering an economic injection to the families of those homes in a situation of energy or economic poverty," said the councillor.

A part of the funds from this grant may also be used to cover the expenses derived from the care of refugees from the war in Ukraine who are vulnerable, such as temporary accommodation or translation or Spanish learning services that the City Council makes available to them.

Finally, the call also contemplates the use of funds to reinforce the staff of the Council and thus speed up the care and help of people with socioeconomic needs.
