At the doors of Benidorm City Hall a new minute of silence has been celebrated this afternoon as a sign of mourning and protest for the last two victims of gender violence. The Councilor for Equality, Paquita Ripoll, led the rally, in which members of the municipal government, representatives of the different political groups and municipal workers have participated.
On this occasion, the first victim was a 34-year-old woman whose body was found on Monday, April 1, in Rojales (Alicante). The author of the events of 49 years was arrested early the next day. The second case occurred in La Laguna (Tenerife) last January in the municipality of Camino Fuente Cañizares, but so far it had not been confirmed as a case of gender violence. The woman was burned to death by her ex-partner who was arrested yesterday by the National Police. It is foreseen that today, Wednesday, he will be brought to trial accused of an alleged crime of murder committed in the area of domestic and gender violence.
From the Department of Equality reminds women who may be facing a case of abuse, who can go to municipal services and also use the toll-free number 016 against gender violence. The call is not reflected in the telephone bill, but it is advisable to delete it from the list of calls from mobile phones.
