The mayor welcomes the annual conference of the Royal British Legion held in Benidorm

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, gave this morning the welcome to the members of the Royal British Legion who participated in the Annual Congress held in the city and encouraged them to continue working to continue "closer ties of respect and Friendship that unite the British people and the Spanish ".

The Royal British Legion has been celebrating for three years in Benidorm, the 'Poppy Appeal' an event organized every November in memory of all those who died in the wars that took place in the world and that uses the poppy as a symbol of that memory. It has about 700,000 members and is an organization that finances itself through donations. It was founded in 1921 to support the I World War veterans and their families and has become one of the Britain's largest charity organizations. Every year they sell about 25 million poppies. In Spain the association has about 4,000 members in the 36 existing branches, of which 1,800 belong to the Northern District.
