On March 28, organ and txistu will be the stars of the third concert

Luciano Zecca, the star of the second session of the XIII International Organ Festival

01 March 2025
Sant Jaume i Santa Anna.
Sant Jaume i Santa Anna.

The prestigious Italian organist Luciano Zecca performed at tonight's second concert of the thirteenth edition of the Benidorm International Organ Festival, which is organised by the Department of Culture and the Parish of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna.

The venue was full, and Zecca, accompanied by the department councillor, Jaime Jesús Pérez, and the festival coordinator, Juan Antonio Espinosa, offered a recital that began with the Entrée pontificate op.104 n°1, Ave Maria op. 104 n°2 and Stunde der Freude op. 132 n°5, by Marco Enrico Bossi and continued with the Prélude op 29 n°1 by Gabriel Pierné; Pavane pour une infant défunte, by Maurice Ravel; Trumpet Tune, by David N. Johnson; Imperial March op.32 and Nimrod, by Edward Elgar; Toccata da Suite gothique op.25, by Léon Boellmann and, finally, Andante semplice e Allegro, by Frigyes Hidas.

Zecca is one of the most renowned organists in his country. He completed his musical studies at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, graduating in Principal Composition with Giuseppe Giuliano and in Organ and Composition with Luigi Benedetti. He completed his musical studies with diplomas at Brescia Conservatory under the direction of Anita Porrini and followed the master classes attended by renowned teachers of organ music.

He has developed his teaching activity in the press and state music conservatories and, at the same time, he developed an intense concert activity as a soloist in numerous countries in Europe, America and Asia. He has performed in prestigious venues around the world, such as the Milan Cathedral in Italy; St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York or Washington; as well as in the cathedrals of Malaga, Madrid and Lleida, in Spain. He has also given concerts in different venues in England, Germany, Austria, France, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Czech Republic, Russia, Switzerland and Japan. In addition, his concert presented on the YouTube channel in his name has surpassed three million views.

The third of the Benidorm Organ Festival concerts will take place on March 28, with Benantzi Bilbao on the keyboard accompanied by Josu Sorriketa and Juan Maria Gondra with the traditional Basque ‘txistu’.

A unique organ

The organ in the church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna was built in 2012 by the workshop of artisan luthiers Federico Acitores of Torquemada (Palencia). It is a unique instrument with great sound possibilities that, considered as 'eclectic', fuses the characteristics of these instruments from the Iberian Peninsula, Germany and France, which allows it to reach the largest amount of musical literature composed by the great masters of the Renaissance or the Baroque.

This organ stands out throughout the Valencian Community for its sound characteristics and interpretation possibilities. It combines three manual keyboards of 56 notes and another pedalboard of 30, 1,990 sound tubes, 44 registers (36 sound, two tremolos and six couplings) and has mechanical transmission of notes and electrical transmission of registers. In short, a unique piece that the City Council, parish and performers put in value for the enjoyment of the citizens every year with the International Organ Festival.
