Aniversario Policía Local

The mayor stresses that the presence and action of the Local Police is a "guarantee" of "one of Benidorm's most precious assets: security"

Benidorm Local Police has commemorated today the 179th anniversary of its foundation with an institutional act that has been held in the City Hall assembly hall. An anniversary that was officially celebrated on March 1st and that the Local Police Sociocultural Association has celebrated with a series of events that began on Saturday, February 25th and will last until April 1st.

The institutional act was attended by, among others, the mayor, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Citizen Security, Lorenzo Martínez; members of the municipal Corporation; the Acting Chief Commissioner of the Local Police, Luis Martín Arévalo; the Chief Commissioner of the National Police Corps, Ceferino Serrano; the Lieutenant of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, Manuel Alberto Sánchez; the dean judge, Joan Francesc Vives; as well as representatives of Civil Protection and the Red Cross, and a representation of agents of the Local Police force.

During the act, the Cross of Police Merit with Blue Distinction, granted by the General Directorate of Security and Emergency Response at the proposal of the Board of Commanders of the Local Police and at the request of the Benidorm Corporation, has been delivered to the agents Nuria López Santos and José Ramón Fuentes Marín for "excelling with notoriety and perseverance in the fulfillment of the duties of their position."

Likewise, public congratulations have been transferred "for having carried out a particularly meritorious service in the fulfillment of their functions" to the agents José Luis Tormo González, Miguel Puertas Reig, Manuel Caballero Nadal, Antonio Gorreta Amador, Jaime Óscar Grau García and David Jiménez Sahuquillo . In addition, and on the occasion of his retirement, officers José Gil Castañeda and Juan Enrique Martínez Pérez have been recognized.

In addition, from the Sociocultural Association of the Local Police, a metope has been delivered to the Regional Fire Department Park in gratitude for "the dedication, commitment, professionalism, and work provided at the service of the citizens of Benidorm".

After these acknowledgments, in his institutional speech, the acting Chief Commissioner indicated that "with nearly two centuries of life, the Benidorm Local Police has more than shown its solvency, especially in current times", evidencing "its capacity adaptation, action, attention and, of course, the resolution before the most adverse situations”.

Martín Arévalo has assured that "much of our potential is due to the professionalization of the body in recent decades"; and has stressed that "the changing reality" requires "greater adaptation in the modernization of management, streamlining procedures, updating protocols, permanent training of our troops" and "the creation of a stable workforce, enough and rejuvenated." "Everything," he stated, "to continue to efficiently provide the services entrusted to us" and to "align ourselves with social demands and citizen needs."

Likewise, he has congratulated the agents who have been recognized today and those who have retired, especially the Chief Commissioner until a short time ago, Juan Fuertes Apastegui, who has been in charge of the force for the last 37 years. He also mentioned agent Jaume Climent, from the Canine Unit and rescue specialist, who traveled to Turkey in an "altruistic manner" last February to participate in the rescue efforts for the victims of the earthquake.

Some congratulations and acknowledgments to which the mayor has joined, who has been in charge of closing the act. Toni Pérez has highlighted "the respect, courage and rigor" with which the agents "defend laws and the Constitution, while helping and protecting people and goods, always vigilant to confer security" to those who "make Benidorm a place of residence, work, leisure or rest, ensuring the tranquility and safety of all, together with the State Security Forces and Bodies” with a presence in the city.

The mayor has remarked that the presence of the Local Police "on the streets daily and continuously" and "at events" that are held in the city, in addition to being "necessary and highly valued", is "a guarantee, at all times, of one of Benidorm's most precious assets: security”. Security, he stressed, "is not only evidenced and verified in the data but also in the perception" that residents and tourists have of it and that is located at even higher thresholds.

As the mayor has highlighted, “Benidorm is a hospitable, diverse, inclusive, welcoming and safe city; and it is, the result of the efforts of its people, of this municipal administration and the commitment to service and action of the Security Corps and Forces represented in Benidorm and, among them, our Local Police Force”.
