Hundreds of residents and tourists celebrate the traditional 'Blessing of the palm' in Benidorm as the beginning of Holy Week
Several hundred people have celebrated this Palm Sunday's traditional blessing of palms and olive branches in the San Jaime and Santa Ana church.
The procession of palms through the streets near the church preceded the mass. Similarly, several hundred residents and tourists walked around the streets of the old town with their palms.
The mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez, the national deputy, Agustín Almodóbar, the regional deputy, Manuel Pérez Fenoll, the parish priest Juan Antonio González Magaña, members of the municipal corporation, together with a significant representation of children, in addition to the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Angélica Morenilla and Daniela Talavera and their court of honor.
The festivity, which marks the beginning of Holy Week, has children as main protagonists, who, according to tradition, are presented by her godmother with a palm from her so that she is blessed that day. A blessing was carried out by the parish priest of the church of San Jaime in the moments before the procession.
After it, mass was celebrated in a church full of the faithful.
