Featuring works by Emilie Meyer and Fanny Mendelssohn, the concert is part of the commemoration of March 8th
Grandes Recitales pays tribute to female composers in Benidorm
Benidorm Town Hall's Assembly Hall hosted another concert this Friday in the Great Recitals series, organised annually by the Department of Culture to bring classical music to a wider audience. This time, entitled "A Tribute to Women Composers," the recital, featuring a string quartet, was part of the "Culture for Equality" program, commemorating International Women's Day.
More than 200 people enjoyed the free concert, which began promptly at 8:00 p.m. The program offered a journey through the works of two prominent 19th-century composers, Emilie Meyer and Fanny Mendelssohn, highlighting their contributions to classical music. Among those in attendance were the councillors for Culture and Equality, Jaime Jesús Pérez and Ángela Zaragozí, and other members of the municipal council.
By Meyer, the four parts of the work String Quartet in E-Flat Major (H. 277) have been performed: I. Adagio ma non tropo, II. Scherzo. Allegretto, III. Romanze and IV. Allegro molto vivace. For its part, Mendelssohn's String Quartet in E Minor has been offered, with the movements I. Allegro maestoso, II. Scherzo, III. Adagio molto espressivo e IV. Allegro appassionato.
The quartet featured in this recital consisted of violinists Antonio García Egea, Mirian Jódar Gabarrón, Cristina Regojo Huertos, and Adrián López Agudo from Benidorm. These performers demonstrated a high level of artistry throughout the evening and have performed on some of the world's most iconic stages, such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Musikverein in Vienna.
The Culture and Equality departments expressed their satisfaction with the audience's response and emphasised the importance of these kinds of initiatives, which allow people to enjoy classical music in Benidorm free of charge, performed by top-tier musicians, while also highlighting the often-unrecognised role of women in the history of music.
