It is the only trail with this certification that runs entirely through an urban park and the only one located in such a large area, spanning over one million square meters

El Moralet Park now flies the 'Blue Trail Flag,' recognizing the municipal effort for its restoration

Toni Pérez recalls that this green space “has always been here, but until a few years ago, it was never cared for or valued.

Since Monday, El Moralet Park has been displaying the prestigious 'Blue Flag Trail 2025' award, which this year was awarded by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) to the Perimeter Trail of this urban park "for the efforts dedicated to the recovery, maintenance, and enhancement of the trail" by Benidorm City Council. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, along with the Councillors for the Environment and Parks and Gardens, Mónica Gómez and José Ramón González de Zárate, raised this environmental flag today at the Moralet entrance from Vía Parque, in the presence of other City Council members and municipal staff.

The 'Blue Flag Trail' award recognises the commitment of municipalities and public administrations to the recovery and enhancement of trails and paths that promote environmental education and sustainable enjoyment of the environment.

In the case of Benidorm, ADEAC wanted to recognise "the conservation and restoration of trails and paths that have always been here, but which until a few years ago had never been cared for or valued, despite being one of the great green lungs of our municipality," highlighted Toni Pérez.

The mayor recalled that "with the actions we have been carrying out in recent years, El Moralet has become a very valuable space for environmental interpretation and education, and for the enjoyment of nature by our residents and visitors, through recreational, sports, and sustainable tourism activities." Not surprisingly, he noted that "every day, many people enjoy being in contact with the environment by walking or exercising at any time of year."

To achieve the Blue Trail award, as explained by the Councilor for the Environment, several criteria and indicators must be met, grouped into four categories: characteristics of the trails and layouts; information, signage, and infrastructure on the trails; conservation and management of natural and cultural heritage; and public use of trails.

Mónica Gómez also explained that this perimeter trail is "the only one recognised with the 'Blue Flag' that runs entirely through an urban park and the only one located in such a large urban park, the size of Moralet Park," with more than one million square meters.

For his part, the head of Parks and Gardens recalled that this green space was "a completely degraded area a few years ago, but with this government, we have made every effort to restore it and create a park that today is an example of sustainability, forest management, and the environment." In fact, he continued, the park "has already established itself as a reality in respect for nature and the enjoyment and accessibility of all audiences."
