Ecovidrio grants Benidorm the Green Flag for once again exceeding the volume of glass container collection

Benidorm City Council has today received notification from Ecovidrio, the non-profit entity in charge of managing the recycling of glass containers, that the city has been awarded one of the two Green Flags of the Valencian Community.

Obtaining the recognition is due, according to Ecovidrio, to the teamwork of the consistory, the local citizens and the hoteliers, which has allowed Benidorm "to take a step further in the transition towards the circular economy and in the fight against climate change", in addition to having become "an example of the green recovery of the hotel industry".

Thus, according to data from Ecovidrio, Benidorm has collected 1,039,166 kilos of glass in June, July and August, which represents an increase of 69% compared to the same period in 2021. The recycling of these glass containers has managed to avoid the extraction of 1,250,000 kilos of raw materials, has avoided the emission of 603,000 kilos of CO2 into the environment and saved more than 740 MWh. These data have meant that the town has achieved a score of 2,927 points.

The awarding ceremony for the Green Flags will take place in Madrid on October 19, in an act presided over by Hugo Morán, Secretary of State for the Environment. In the same act, recognitions will also be given to the nine catering establishments most committed to the sustainability of the summer.
