The auditorium of Benidorm Cultural Centre hosted a concert by the La Nova Musical Society's Symphonic Band in honour of Saint Cecilia, the patroness saint of music. More than 300 people enjoyed the event, which also served as a welcome for the new musicians who have joined the society this year.

Among those present were the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, and the councillor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, along with other members of the council and the regional deputy, José Ramón González de Zárate.

The event began with a welcome address by the president of La Nova, Juan Vicente Moreno, followed by the mayor, who, from the stage, recalled the society's beginnings when a group of musicians and people connected to music "decided to take the plunge" and create the society. "Who would have thought," he said, "that it would become a musical group 'like the one that has been delighting us in Benidorm for so long?'"

Toni Pérez asked for applause for those people, directors, and members "who are always there, but not on stage," who, together with the musicians, have created in La Nova "a meeting place for young and old alike" in Benidorm.

The mayor also reminded the newly appointed musicians of the symphonic band that “this is their home” and that “we will all be watching their progress” in Benidorm, which he described as a “land of music” due to its vibrant musical and cultural scene and the hundreds of students enrolled in its music societies.

Following this, La Nova's principal conductor, Francisco José Rovira Peretó, led the concert, which began with the pasodoble ‘Origen’ by Alejandro Martínez and continued with ‘Saxophone Concerto in E flat Op. 109 (1935)’ by Alexander Glazounou; ‘Angkor’ (symphonic poem 2025) by Eric Rodríguez; ‘May Fair Lady’ by Frederick Loewe, arranged by Alfred Reed; ‘Iberia Míticaventura (Fantasía 2002)’ by Ferrer Ferran; and concluded, as an encore, with a performance of the anthem of the Valencian Community.

New musicians

The new musicians who have joined La Nova are: Sara Día, Ángela García Francés, Carmen Jiménez Ceballos and Marina Llorens (flutes). Marc Berenguer (Clarinet). Dolores Rostoll (Saxophone). M.ª Luisa García Martínez and Lier Ogando Germán (Trumpet). Diego Herreros and Oliver Moya Segura (Bombardino). And finally, Aroa Rodríguez (Percussion).
