The City Council includes Raúl Mesa pavilion into the network of cardioprotected spaces in Benidorm

Benidorm City Council has incorporated a new municipal building into the city's network of cardioprotective spaces, Raúl Mesa pavilion, where a mobile semi-automatic defibrillator (DESA) has been installed to be used in the event of an emergency due to cardiorespiratory failure. The Councilor for Health, Ana Pellicer, has pointed out that, with this, “there are now thirteen municipal buildings that have this resource, which allows rapid action in the event of a stoppage while the emergency health services arrive and can be decisive in the time to save lives”, given that “usually survival in this type of episode is minimal if more than ten minutes pass since the stop occurs and there is no attention.”

Ana Pellicer highlighted that the equipment with these elements in public facilities "began in 2015 and has been expanded depending on the needs raised." Likewise, he recalled that the City Council is preparing a map with all the public and private buildings with this type of defibrillator, to "make available to the public a list with all the spaces that are equipped with AEDs to speed up response to an emergency.” All of this, with the objective, she said, “that they can be used as a basic element in the event of cardiorespiratory arrest in the shortest possible time.”

The Councilor for Health has stressed the importance of “citizens and people, in general, knowing where the defibrillator equipment is located to go as quickly as possible, since it has been shown that they are very effective, in addition to cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres.” (CPR).” In addition, she explained that these devices only act when they detect that there is cardiac arrest or ventricular fibrillation, so "they are very safe elements."

In addition to the one recently incorporated into Raúl Mesa pavilion, the rest of the defibrillators are located in the following municipal offices: City Hall (Local Police checkpoint and entrance lobby); entrance hall to Palau d’Esports L’Illa in Benidorm; offices of Guillermo Amo Sports City; changing rooms at Antonio López football fields; Municipal Market; lobby of the Local Police headquarters; La Torreta Social Center; José Llorca Linares Social Center; Tanit Social Center; Cultural Center and the School for Adults.
