Benidorm expresses its rejection of the two new sexist crimes confirmed in Girona and Ciudad Real

With them, the number of women murdered by gender violence so far this year has risen to 5 and 1,245 since 2003

This Monday, Benidorm City Council has shown its rejection and condemnation of the last two crimes of sexist violence confirmed in the last few hours in our country by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence. These are two women, aged 37 and 54, murdered in Girona and Ciudad Real, presumably at the hands of their respective partners.

The silent rally to express rejection of these two new crimes took place in the Town Hall square and was led by the acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, accompanied by numerous members of the Municipal Corporation, including the mayor of Equality. , Ángela Zaragozí.

As reported by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, the first of the crimes occurred on February 22 in the municipality of Olot (Girona), when a 37-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her partner, who later took his life. Less than 24 hours later, another man ended the life of his partner, a 54-year-old woman, in the town of Aldea del Rey (Ciudad Real). It was the aggressor himself who notified the Civil Guard.

With these two new victims, the number of women murdered so far this year now reaches 5, while since 2003, when the count began, there have already been 1,245 women who have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners, as a consequence of gender violence.

The Department of Equality has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the mobile call log.
