Benidorm creates the 'Seagull Game' to spread its history and iconic spaces to young people

Through the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage, Benidorm City Council presented an initiative that combines play and knowledge to spread the word about its history, illustrious figures, and most emblematic spaces among the city's younger population. This initiative, known as the "Seagull Game," is an adaptation of the classic "Goose Game." Drawings by the artist Malagón depict some of the municipality's most recognisable spaces, along with people and landmarks, on a large 7x7 canvas.
The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councillor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer, accompanied a group of students from the Bautista Lledó public preschool and primary school today. They were the first to play this "Seagull Game" in Plaza del Castell. The game's presentation coincided with the activities organised to commemorate the 700th Anniversary of Benidorm's founding, so that "this historic commemoration can reach all citizens, in this case the children of Benidorm, thus involving different generations in a date that will remain in everyone's memory," the mayor emphasised.
The prominent places, figures, and elements that occupy the spaces of this game combine images of natural, classic, or modern spaces in the city, such as the island, El Castell, the Emita de Sanz, the church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna, the techno-milestone, the beaches, the Serra Gelada mountain range, the various parks, the Town Hall, and the Avenida del Mediterráneo, among others. Also featured are Pedro Zaragoza with his Vespa, and Bernat de Sarrià and Beatriu Fajardo de Mendoza, nobles who signed the two Benidorm Town Charters. The image of Our Lady of Suffrage, the goddess Tanit, the microphone from the Benidorm Fest, and the Little Mermaid from the Song Festival are other featured images in this game, which also accompany others about the Patron Saint Festivities, water sports, local cuisine, and scenes from popular music and culture. Finally, the seagull is the star animal, replacing the goose from the classic game, as it is an animal "much more our own and can be found in any area" of our city.
The Councillor for Historical and Cultural Heritage has publicly invited all interested educational centres or associations related to children to contact this department to schedule dates so their students or users can enjoy this game, either in parks or other public spaces in Benidorm, or in the schools themselves. To do so, those interested can send an email to biblioteca@benidorm.org.
Ana Pellicer also announced that the idea is "to continue this project by publishing the board in a board game format and distributing it to schoolchildren, so they can continue playing our 'Seagull Game' and soaking up the rich cultural, historical, and natural heritage we have in Benidorm."
