The offering to the Mare de Dèu and the mass in Sant Jaume mark the beginning of this endearing festival
Benidorm celebrates 'Festa de la Carxofa' in style with events throughout the day
'Festa de la Carxofa', one of the most endearing and oldest in Benidorm, is celebrated today and is doing it in style after a couple of years when the pandemic prevented it.
A day that began with the 'penjà de la Carxofa', which was followed by a parade from Plaza de la Constitución to the church of Sant Jaume, where an offering was made to the Mare de Dèu shortly before mass, which began at ten o'clock in the morning officiated by the parish priest Juan Antonio González.
It was attended by Mayor Toni Pérez, members of the municipal corporation, the presidents of the Comissió de Festes Majors Patronals and Associació de Penyes, José Vicente Fuster and Adrián Romero, the queens, Aila Merenciano and Chloe d'Hebboudt accompanied by their court of honor.
Once the religious ceremony was over, the entourage moved in parades to Plaza de la Constitución where they tasted typical products of the garden. At 12:30 a large popular sardine takes place.
In the afternoon, the celebration continues from 5:00 p.m., with an afternoon by a well-known DJ and at 9:00 p.m. the popular Beer Drinking Contest will be held. The square will continue to be enlivened with music all the time and at 11:30 p.m. the traditional 'cremà de la Carxofa' will take place. The festivities will continue until around 2:00 in the morning.
