The concessionaire increases the number of workers to 200, who will be distributed in three shifts, and intensifies waste collection and emptying of waste bins

Benidorm begins its summer street cleaning efforts on Sunday with more workers and special services in neighborhoods and tourist areas

Benidorm inicia el domingo el refuerzo de la limpieza viaria estival con más trabajadores y servicios especiales en barrios y zonas turísticas

Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Street Cleaning, will reinforce its cleaning and waste collection service starting this Sunday, June 15th, with additional staff and special actions in neighbourhoods and tourist areas for the summer season. The councillor for the department, Luis Navarro, stated that these reinforcements will continue until September 15th so that residents and tourists "have the best image of our city."

For this special operation, the company that provides the service will incorporate all the staff, bringing the total number of workers responsible for cleaning and waste collection to 200. In this way, "the three daily shifts, which cover 24 hours a day, will be reinforced so that the service can be provided under better conditions at a time when Benidorm's population is multiplying and, therefore, much more waste is being generated than usual," explained Luis Navarro.

In this regard, the councillor explained that it has been detected that at the beginning of the summer season, there is a greater number of garbage bags outside the containers, as well as a greater amount of unfolded cardboard. For this reason, he indicated that "there is a door-to-door collection service for the entire city for cardboard collection, with established schedules to alleviate the excess cardboard on public streets and provide a perfect recycling service." Navarro indicated, however, that "if this is not possible, it is best to put it properly folded next to the container." Additionally, there is a telephone number for all information: 96-5855184.

The councilor explained that, in addition to the usual services provided throughout the year, in the summer "neighborhood cleaning work will be carried out again, in the afternoon shift," for which "a sweeper will be used; a hydro vehicle with pressurized water that uses degreaser, hypochlorite, and deodorizer; and a blower, with the corresponding personnel for these tasks."

Regarding areas with the highest concentration of people and high tourist influx, such as Levante and Poniente beaches, sweeping and emptying of trash cans will be increased, which, according to data from previous seasons, is done up to eight times a day. Also in other areas with a high presence of the public and where there are containers for separating waste, such as Plaza de la Constitución, Hort de Colón, Pintor Lozano, or Plaza de la Senyoria, an information campaign will be carried out on the proper use of underground trash cans, which will be complemented by increased maintenance of containers and trash cans throughout the city.

Similarly, the councillor reminded businesses and hospitality establishments that they must have a container appropriate for their waste production," and place it on public streets at night from 9 p.m. and collect it before 9 a.m.," as established in the municipal ordinance.

Finally, he emphasised that cleaning will also be carried out at the entrances to Benidorm, along paths, gutters, outskirts, and park-and-ride parking areas. Waste collection will be reinforced with a rear-loading vehicle that, in addition to emptying the sweeping containers, will respond to any emergencies that may arise anywhere in the city. "Our intention is for Benidorm to offer its best image not only to tourists, but also to all of us who live and work here every day of the year," concluded Luis Navarro.
