Twenty-two residents of Benidorm graduate from UMH after completing the two courses of the University of Experience
Twenty-two residents of Benidorm, aged 55 and over, graduated this year from Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UHM) after completing their studies in the lifelong learning classes (AUNEX), a training project supported by Benidorm City Council through its Department of Social Welfare. This two-year project aims to promote culture and well-being through a study program immersed in a university environment, without requiring prior academic qualifications.
The graduation ceremony took place last week in Elche and brought together senior students from across the province.
The Councillor for Social Welfare, Ángela Zaragozí, publicly congratulated the new AUNEX graduates from Benidorm, noting that the program "now boasts more than twenty graduating classes of senior students who have found in this project an opportunity to increase their knowledge and expand their professional networks."
In this edition, around fifty students enrolled, 22 of whom were second-year students. As in previous editions, the project has been running since October, meeting two afternoons a week at José Llorca Linares social centre. Students have taken courses in: Self-Regulation Skills and Emotional Intelligence, Literature, The European Union: What is it and what is it for?, Botany, Journalism in the Face of Disinformation and AI, Art, and Physiology. Several seminars have also been held.
Zaragozí announced that information about the next edition of the Lifelong Learning Program will be released in September at all community centres, and invited “people over 55 with a desire for further education and a willingness to learn to participate in this initiative, for which no prior studies are required.”
