A training day on how to treat people 'trans' opens the events of Equality of Pride Week

04 September 2018
Una jornada formativa sobre cómo tratar a las personas ‘trans’ abre los actos de Igualdad de la Semana del Orgullo

A day on how to treat transgender people, addressed to officials of Benidorm City Council and workers in general who work in public service, has opened today the cultural, training and protest actions scheduled by the Department of Equality on the occasion of the LGBTI Pride Week. A program that has been designed jointly with the LGTBI Association of Benidorm and the region and NosGustas.com, and which also includes the screening of 'trans' short films and video clips.

The training session 'How to treat and respect a trans person' started at 10.00 am in the Assembly Hall of the Consistory and attended by, among others, the Councilor for Equality, Paquita Ripoll; several members of the corporation; representatives of the Local Police Headquarters; technicians and heads of Equality of Benidorm and other municipalities of the region; and workers from various departments of the City Council.

This day was given by Carolina Laferre, director of the media outlet Trans · Socialmedia, dedicated to information on the female 'trans' community.

For just over three hours, Laferre addressed the 'trans' fact and all the reality that surrounds it. Thus, through videos and other didactic materials she delved into issues such as basic gender terminology; the initiation into the anthropological history of transsexuality; sexuality, power and heteronormativity; the protocols for the use of an inclusive language; and the activities and tips to maintain and make effective these protocols.

The Pride Week program, focused this year on the visibility of 'trans' reality, continues tomorrow, Wednesday, day 5, with a screening of short films in the City Hall. Specifically, seven short films directed, starred, scripted or produced by 'trans' people will be screened. On Friday it will be the turn of the screening of five LGBTI video clips at El Castillo at 10 pm.
