The traditions of Benidorm continue with the celebration of the 'Artichoke Festivity'

As usual in the festive calendar, after leaving behind the echoes, chords and gunpowder of the Major Festivities, the 'Artichoke' Festivity kicked off last night with the traditional tasting of typical "Farina de dacsa and peix" buns from Benidorm attended by the mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez, accompanied by the councilor of Fiestas Jesús Carrobles, the queens of the Major Patron Festivities, Anna Galiana and Àngela Antón and numerous members of the municipal corporation.

This festivity is very rooted in the city since it was rescued from times before the Civil War and that for more than 35 years the residents in Plaza de la Constitución have celebrated, born spontaneously before the war and where it is tradition to taste typical Benidorm rolls, roasted sardines and artichokes.

From the first hour of this morning the president of the 'Artichoke' Miguel Llorens, together with the commission of fiestas, have participated in the act that best symbolizes the name of the festivity, the "Club" of the Artichoke ", moment in the a giant artichoke hangs in the middle of Constitución Square and will be burnt tomorrow night.

Then, one of the events that has the greatest tradition of the party, which is the 'XXXV Children's Drawing Contest', which has already passed many generations and involving children in the city. After that the commission offered a tasting of sardines and local wines.

This afternoon the acts will continue with the musical band from 17 hours, tasting typical products and musical performance at night.

For tomorrow as a main dish, there will be an offering of flowers to the Mare de Deu del Sofratge at 10.30 am and the "burning" of the 'Artichoke', made with paper and papier-mâché, and whose burning puts an end to the festivities.
