The mayor shares the day with the president of the Balearic Council, the Secretary of State for Tourism, consuls and tourism entrepreneurs in Alaior (Menorca)

Toni Pérez values the impact and return on investment of events and their potential to make the tourism less the seasonal

11 April 2026
Alaior

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, today praised the positive impact of events on tourist destinations and their potential to reduce the seasonality of tourism. He made these remarks during a round table discussion at the 9th Menorca Tourism, Events and Celebrations Fair, which is taking place today and tomorrow in the municipality of Alaior. Other participants in the event included the president of the Balearic Islands government, Marga Prohens; the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez; consular representatives from France and Germany; and representatives from the tourism sector.

Toni Pérez stated that major events are “a strategic tool” and that they are scheduled “where there is still room for growth and where they can act as a catalyst to increase occupancy, attract new audiences, and reinforce Benidorm's image as a year-round destination.” During his speech, the mayor referred to large-scale events such as Benidorm Fest, the Cyclocross World Cup, and the Benidorm Half, as well as others like the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival and the Les Ones Festival. He asserted that in destinations like Benidorm, in addition to direct and indirect economic returns, strategic returns are also a priority.

“Many events not only fill hotel rooms or generate immediate spending,” he stated, “but also help position the destination in priority segments, strengthen customer loyalty, and open up new opportunities for future visits.”

Beyond the events and their impact, Toni Pérez emphasised that tourism “is an industrial activity that cannot be outsourced and generates immediate and positive effects on the region; it creates wealth, employment, and stability.” He also stressed that “when well managed, tourism can also become a tool for social sustainability.”
