Toni Pérez reminds Oltra that in Tourism we are in a process of permanent transformation, not in the paradigm shift

The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has regretted that the Vice President Mónica Oltra is not clear about the reality of tourism in the Valencian Community. "Only from the deepest ignorance, even of the own actions of the Consell of which she is vice-president, it would be possible to underestimate a fundamental sector of the Valencian economy such as tourism, so I really suspect that this is an other attempt of imposing ideological-populist postulates to divert attention, as if, after a sound lack of appearance in her responsibilities, she had nothing to attend to. ”

Regarding the controversy raised by the protests of Mrs. Oltra in the print media, Pérez insisted that "the issue is more serious because it underlies, far from the reality of this industry and the millions of people who live from it, the old premise that it is an activity that does not bring benefits to society or even that is harmful, when Tourism is one of the most powerful engines of the Valencian economy, which redistributes wealth and is becoming more sustainable every day ”.

In this sense, the mayor of Benidorm has pointed out that "contributing 14.5% of the GDP in the Valencian Community and 15.1% of direct employment, tourism is not a residual element of the economy either". In a direct allusion, Toni Pérez stressed that "tourism is the essence of our economy". In this regard, he pointed out that “if tourism today falls far short of factory and worker concepts, even of the economies led by the Gosplán, it is because is based on the initiative and entrepreneurship capacity of our people and on the premise of hospitality of this territory".

"The statements of Mrs. Oltra, exclusively for the responsibility that she holds as Vice President of the Consell, have no place at the moment, as I estimate that I would contribute nothing as the mayor of Benidorm if I now took stock of her management and that of the Valencian government in this crisis. The time to do it will come, but some of us are still dedicated to rowing together and in the only possible direction at the moment: avoiding the destruction of what has been achieved with everyone's effort, before the day comes that, after their failure to appear, others come to tell us how we should have done what was within their competence. "
