Students from IES Mediterrànea carry out an exhibition on women along the history

08 March 2017
Alumnos del IES Mediterrànea realizan una exposición sobre la mujer a lo largo de la historia

The mayor visits the exhibition and encourages young people to continue working for gender equality in all areas

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has attended this morning the inauguration of the exhibition about women by students of the Institute of Secondary Education IES Mediterrànea, which offers a tour of the role played by women in society along the history. The mayor congratulated teachers and students for an initiative held on the occasion of International Women's Day, which reinforces the need to continue working for gender equality in all areas. Toni Pérez has encouraged them to continue doing so to build this equality from one of the pillars of our society, as is the case of education.

The director of the center, Luis González, has emphasized that the exhibition is part of a global pedagogical project in which his institute works to banish gender stereotypes, for example in sport and other activities, with special awareness of the Labor discrimination and gender violence.

The exhibition, which was inaugurated this morning, is made up of documents, photographs and crafts made by the students themselves, and reflects the role that women have played in the different stages, from prehistory to the present day. Each period is explained by the students themselves as tourist guides and have worked on the project the 1st and 2nd students of ESO and the First Training Cycle of Higher Degree of Guide-Informer and Tourist Assistance, together with teachers Mari Luz Villalba (Biology) José Manuel Fernández (Geography and History) Óscar Tejada (Physical Education) and Maite Valldecabres (Coordinator of Gender Equality).
