The reissue of the works by Pere Maria Orts i Bosch on the patroness saint of Benidorm has been presented

The Assembly Hall of Benidorm City Hall hosted the presentation of the new book on Thursday afternoon, which compiles in a single volume the two works that the historian Pere Maria Orts i Bosch wrote about the Virgen del Sufragio, patroness saint of Benidorm: ‘Una imagen de la Virgen en Benidorm’ (1965) and ‘Arribada d’una imatge de la Verge a Benidorm’ (1972).
This reissue was produced by the publishing house Vicente J. Sanjuán, with the collaboration of the Department of Culture of Benidorm City Hall, the Associació d’Estudis de la Marina Baixa (Aemaba), and the Cultural and Recreational Association La Barqueta.
The presentation was given by the editor, Vicente Sanjuán, and by two of the people who have enriched the texts that Pere Maria edited: Vicente Ibañez Orts, the author's nephew and who has written the biographical note on Pere Maria Orts i Bosch; and Professor Francisco Amillo, who has been in charge of writing the prologue to this volume and providing more information on the original writings.
The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, together with the Councillor for Culture of the Benidorm City Council, Jaime Jesús Pérez, and other members of the municipal Corporation followed closely the dissertation that the three made about Orts i Bosch, his research until he found the files on the Virgin of the General Archive of Simancas and the possible origin of the boat that transported her. Also present were the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals of 2025, Paula Pascual Sánchez and Aitana Pérez Gutiérrez; the president of the Commission, Susana Martínez; Representatives of the ACR La Barqueta, with its president, Francisco Llorens Orts, and a large audience.
The work is already on sale and will be distributed in various institutions, libraries and educational centres in the city.
