The exhibition was on until April at Boca del Calvari. Now, coinciding with International Museum Day, it is installed in cyberspace

Starting today, the Virtual Benidorm has a new permanent exhibition, 'Orografía del Camino' by the artist Manuel Outumuro (Orense, 1949), winner of the 2022 Lucie Awards, considered the 'Oscars' of photography.

The exhibition has been physically exhibited at the Boca del Calvari Museum from November 24 of last year until April 2 of this year. After the closure, the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage has digitized the content and created the virtual tour so that it regains validity and “is available to the entire public from any corner of the world,” said Councillor Ana Pellicer.

The incorporation of the 'Orografía del Camino' into Virtual Benidorm coincides with World Museum Day "which will be celebrated tomorrow, Saturday around the world." To this end, Pellicer has announced that “the first thirty people who visit the Boca del Calvari tomorrow will receive a special gift to mark the anniversary.” It is worth remembering that, at this time, the installation hosts 'A World of Our Own' by the Alicante illustrator Miguel Calatayud.

The virtual exhibition of Outumuro has“about twenty 360º photographs - Pellicer has clarified - that make up the virtual tour from the street, including three floors of the museum; more than 40 of the original content and three videos.” The councillor pointed out that "as always, for those who are in a hurry, a video has been edited that covers the entire exhibition in one minute" which will also be published on the City Council's social networks.

Regarding 'Orografía del Camino', Ana Pellicer has pointed out that she remembers traditional analogue photographic processing (before the digital cameras). So, the reels had “a maximum of 36 exposures” that, once developed, “were printed on photographic paper, without enlarging, to select the images that would be published and those that would not.”

The virtual exhibition now collects those selected 'contacts' and those rejected. Pellicer encourages visitors to “evaluate the creative's selection and make their own choice”, taking as reference the images of popular characters in fashion, cinema, theatre, song and television from the end of the last century. and principles of this.

Virtual tour

For those who still do not know what a virtual tour is, Ana Pellicer has clarified that it is “a parallel reality” that people can access with a computer, a tablet, a mobile phone or augmented reality glasses.

“360º photographs – she has emphasized – provide an immersive feeling, especially with virtual reality glasses.” By “applying technology” in the preservation of our cultural heritage “the barriers” that people with reduced mobility encounter to enjoy culture are also broken. The councillor stressed that it is about “facilitating accessibility to culture for everyone, especially those who need it most.”

With the new addition, there are now seven exhibitions that have transcended from the analogue to the digital field from Boca del Calvari: 'El Turista accidental', 'Femenino plural' 'Ferran Freixa. La Luz presente', 'Mut Art', 'Guillen Tato' and 'El Guuardian del mar'. All of them can be visited from the Benidorm Virtual section of the municipal website, at https://benidorm.org/es/ayuntamiento/concejalias/patrimonio-historico-y…
