These new cases bring the number of victims of gender-based violence to 27 so far this year
Minute of silence in Benidorm to condemn the sexist crimes against two women in Seville and Barcelona

Benidorm City Council observed a minute of silence at noon this Tuesday to condemn the two gender-based crimes confirmed in recent hours by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence in Spain, which occurred in Seville and Barcelona. The silent rally took place outside City Hall, led by the First Deputy Mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, along with other members of the local council.
The first victim is a 47-year-old woman murdered last Sunday, September 7, in Seville, allegedly at the hands of her partner, who was later arrested. The Ministry of Equality reported that there were no prior complaints of gender-based violence against the alleged assailant.
The victim from Barcelona is a 56-year-old woman, allegedly murdered by her partner on May 25, although it has only recently been confirmed as a case of violence against women. The Ministry has reported that there were also no prior complaints of gender-based violence against the alleged aggressor.
With the confirmation of these two cases, the number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners due to gender-based violence has risen to 27 in 2025 and to 1,321 since 2003, when the number of victims of this type of violence began to be counted.
The Department of Equality emphasises that Benidorm City Council has specialised personnel available to provide free counselling to any woman who feels threatened. They also reiterate that victims of violence against women can access the free 016 hotline, which leaves no trace on their phone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from their cell phone call logs.
This service is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, in 53 languages, and offers a service adapted to potential disabilities. Victims can also use online consultation services via email at 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel at 600 000 016, and the online chat, accessible from the website violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es, which also operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In an emergency, you can call 112 or the National Police (091) and Civil Guard (062) hotlines. If a call is not possible and a dangerous situation arises, you can use the ALERTCOPS app, which will send an alert signal with geolocation to the police. All of these assistance methods can be activated by the victim and also by anyone who knows or suspects a case of gender-based violence. This is a duty of all society.
