A milestone in Benidorm to praise cancer research

01 February 2019
Un hito en Benidorm para ensalzar la investigación contra el cáncer

On Monday afternoon at 13.00, Benidorm City Council will inaugurate a commemorative milestone dedicated to cancer research in the gardens of Parque de l'Aigüera, adjacent to Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España. The work has been promoted by the City Council in collaboration with the local section of the Spanish Association Against Cáncer (AECC).

Precisely, on February 4, World Cancer Day is commemorated around the world, a date sponsored by the World Health Organization and other international organizations with the aim of raising awareness and mobilizing society in the face of prevention and control of this disease.

The president of AECC Benidorm, Pepa Orozco, has indicated that throughout the day, the association will make visible the fuchsia tie, "which symbolizes the fight against the disease" and will take to the streets to raise funds "to dedicate them to research" against this evil. Orozco also recalled that the group has been implanted in the city since the 60s. "Benidorm - he insisted - is a city where people are very supportive". The organization also has groups of volunteers who visit patients and their families at home and in hospitals.

For his part, the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has indicated that this milestone is intended to "give visibility and praise the research and science in favor of the fight against cancer, as well as the important work of the AECC in Benidorm "And has encouraged the public to public institutions to collaborate with it. The first mayor has stated that "without people, groups and institutions involved in research, it will be impossible for there to be a cure" and has reiterated the support of Benidorm City Council for the work carried out in the city by the AECC.
