The mayor confirms that there will be a third edition next year

Five proposals for equality in the great night of Documóvil Benidorm

29 August 2020
Cinco propuestas para la igualdad en la gran noche de Documóvil Benidorm

Benidorm experienced its great night of premieres for gender equality with the projection in Julio Iglesias auditorium of  l'Aigüera Park of the five short films of the second edition of Documóvil Benidorm, an activity organized by the Department of Equality in collaboration with the Pact of State Against Gender Violence. The event was attended by the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí; and representatives of the three municipal groups.

After 9:00 p.m., Zaragozí welcomed the public who filled the stalls of the amphitheater, although, yes, with reduced capacity due to the application of health regulations due to Covid-19. After the mayor's words, the project coordinators, Maria Ivorra and Pepe Vidal, intervened and then the films were screened.

Next, each of the young filmmakers presented their work and explained the reason for each of the ideas captured on celluloid. Cristina Vázquez introduced "Our limits"; Natalia López, "A room of my own"; Irene Pérez, ‘The end of the game’; Denisa Chereches, ‘Looks’; and, finally, the only boy in the quintet, Wassim Atiki, ‘A common family’.

After the viewing, from the stage, the young participants in the Documóvil workshops answered the questions that the public asked them from the amphitheater in a lively debate where they revealed the ins and outs of the project, such as the coup that the confinement entailed, the two intense weeks of filming and editing days, or anecdotes of street work during filming days.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, closed Documóvil Benidorm by thanking the work of the five young filmmakers for having known how to “transfer the reality” of Benidorm's teenagers “who have a vision of the world typical of their age, but also very different from that of many of those who are here today ”. The mayor opted for an immediate future in which equality overcomes discrimination or past abuses and stressed, endorsing the words of one of the young people, that "you can do whatever you want as long as you respect the dignity of others."

Toni Pérez ended his speech by revealing that there will be a third edition of Documóvil next year "and many more", an announcement that this year's participants and those who could not do so were waiting with some tension given the exceptional situation in the country. The five directors, already finished the act, communicated their intention to repeat in 2021.
