Documóvil, the gender perspective through the objective of the youth in Benidorm

17 August 2020
Documóvil, la perspectiva de género a través del objetivo de los jóvenes de Benidorm

The five short films that make up the second edition of Documóvil Benidorm can be viewed for free next Friday, August 28, at the Julio Iglesias Auditorium in l'Aigüera Park, in a collective screening organized by the Department of Equality of Benidorm City Council with the support of the State Pact Against Gender Violence.

‘Una familia común’, by Wassim Atiki; ‘Al final del juego’, by Irene Pérez; Miradas, by Denisa Chereches; 'Nuestros límites', by Cristina Vázquez; and ‘Una habitación propia’ by Natalia López, are the titles of these films, shot in cinematographic format that will be shown for the first time in Benidorm and then go on to national and international distribution circuits.

"Documóvil are - said the Councilor for Equality, Angela Zaragozí, - workshops and audiovisual courses that, through audiovisual creation, prevent unequal relationships between young students in secondary schools." An initiative that "promotes interpersonal relationships based on equality and invites students to reflect on inequalities in society."

The workshops that "develop training on gender, equality, the prevention of sexist violence and promote creativity and concern." To this end, the Department of Equality has encouraged students from secondary schools in Benidorm to set up work groups, "the origin" of the stories, "clarifies Zaragozí, which can be viewed on Documóvil.

The experience allows "students to be able to work the entire creative process: the original idea, the script, the pre-production, the filming and the final assembly." Each short film "delves into a reality" that "is projected to deepen the prevention of gender violence from a youth perspective." For this "it is essential - Zaragozí stressed - that students work from their own perspective, from their experiences and with their own language." Furthermore, "the work methodology, through group workshops, ensures that they are an active part of the project from the beginning". It is, she clarifies, "a transversal action in which awareness is raised in equality through group reflection and that reaches the general public through the screen".

The filming of the shorts has been carried out under the “standards of cinematographic quality”, has specified José Vidal, responsible for the technical coordination of Documóvil. Vidal, doctor in Anthropology, journalist and audiovisual producer, clarifies that "Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4k cameras" have been used and it has been edited with computers and professional Davinci Resolve programs ". The youngsters have also had image stabilizers, travelin, tripods, sound equipment and professional lighting.
