'Clean up the World' collects more than a ton of garbage in the area of Moralet de Benidorm
The activity is part of the European Mobility Week and social and neighborhood groups collaborate
The third edition in Benidorm of 'Clean up the world' has gathered during the morning to more than 60 volunteers to clean the old train platform between the ravine of the Murtal and El Moralet, the pinewood that borders Foietes Park and the Sports City 'Guillermo Amor'. The initiative is part of the program of activities of the European Mobility Week which, for the third consecutive year, is celebrated in Benidorm, specifically in the 'Day of Mobility and Health-Greenways'.
The first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer; together with the councilors of Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate; Citizen Participation, María Jesús Pinto; and Sports, Arturo Cabrillo, have come to Moralet where associations were working to leave the place clean of garbage. Pellicer recalled that this initiative is being carried out simultaneously "in 120 countries" and involved "20 million people".
Juan Antonio Lizancos, representative of the Neighborhood Council, has defended the conversion of the old railway platform in disuse in Vía Verde and has advocated for the transfer of ownership. "We want," he said, "that the Generalitat gives these lands to Benidorm City Council" and that the green areas are an element of "integration" of the city with its surroundings. Early in the morning, a group of volunteers on bicycles has dedicated themselves to cleaning the stretch of the platform and at noon have joined the rest of volunteers. By the end of the day, 1,020 kg of waste had been collected and transferred to the recycling plant.
The 'Clean up the world' in Benidorm is an initiative of the councils of Mobility, Citizen Participation and Sports and has the support of the Neighborhood Council, the Association of Neighbors 'Els Tolls', Aerbeco, Asmibe, Aspanion, Asperb, Mountain Beer Benidorm, Club Ciclista Benidorm, Cycling Union Benidorm, MBxB, Marco Polo, Tao, Cultural Association of the Local Police of Benidorm, Horizon Scout Group, Red Cross and Firemen of the Marina Baixa.
The activities of the European Mobility Week have continued this afternoon in Foietes Park with the celebration of a children's duathlon with children from 2 to 12 years old, which also included the Department of Sports and Elite Bikes Albir Team.
