A proclamation and 25,000 diptychs report on the measures to be taken to prevent their proliferation

The City Council resumes the campaign to combat the tiger mosquito with the collaboration of Hidraqua

17 May 2019
El Ayuntamiento retoma la campaña para combatir el mosquito tigre con la colaboración de Hidraqua

The Benidorm City Council and the potable water concessionaire, Hidraqua, repeat the campaign once again to inform the public about how to combat the proliferation of the tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus). This is an especially necessary initiative since, according to the data of the Department of Health directed by Ana Pellicer, 90% of the centers are on private property and that, despite the fact that the City Council acts in each and every one of the public spaces, it is in the homes where measures must be taken

While the City Council has dictated an informative side, the concessionaire of the potable water service, Hidraqua, will send 25,000 information brochures in the water receipts, which reflect the most important measures that can be taken from home to combat the proliferation of this species of mosquito, especially aggressive and whose sting is dangerous.

Basically, the measures happen to avoid the small amounts of water in the pots or other containers, since they are the most attractive places for the mosquito at the time of depositing their eggs. It is also important to keep the swimming pools and ornamental fountains in good hygienic-sanitary conditions and with the appropriate treatments, in addition to cleaning the drains and gutters.

The tiger mosquito is an invasive species that comes from Southeast Asia and that due to climatic changes and the increase of globalization has spread, specializing in developing its life cycle in very small amounts of water. This animal is responsible for the proliferation of diseases such as chikungunya, dengue, or zika.
