After the government decreed the reactivation of public works, actions are being carried out in areas that are usually very crowded so that they are ready at the end of the confinement

The City Council fixes the paving in Sol street to improve the pedestrian itinerary of the downtown area

El Ayuntamiento arregla el pavimento de la calle Sol para mejorar el itinerario peatonal de la zona centro

Benidorm City Council is taking advantage of the absence of pedestrians in the streets due to the confinement to carry out improvement actions in areas of the city that are usually very busy. Some actions that began yesterday Tuesday, after the Spanish Government decreed the resumption of non-essential activities, including works on public roads. Among the actions that are being carried out is "the arrangement of the pavement on Sol Street, which was quite deteriorated due to the passing of trucks that usually supply the shops on Gambo Street and nearby, as well as Mercado Abril", has explained the mayor, Toni Pérez.

Toni Pérez has emphasized that "once the resumption of activity has been decreed, we have prioritized the works that are located at points of high pedestrian traffic so that these areas are ready as soon as the state of alarm rises and the city recovers normality".

For this reason, "we are also working at the intersection of Ruzafa street with Herrerías and Emilio Ortuño, one of those with the most pedestrian traffic in the city." The mayor has indicated that "in early March we acted in the sidewalk area, while now the work is concentrated on the asphalt to install recessed traffic lights in the ground and all the necessary channeling." Toni Pérez recalled that, as already announced in March, eight units of these beacons are going to be placed, synchronized with vertical traffic lights and designed to avoid dangers to pedestrians who, for example, may be distracted looking at their mobile devices

"We are therefore talking about two key places for pedestrian traffic in the downtown area, such as Sol Street and the lower section of Ruzafa Street," said the mayor, adding that "the progress of both works is going to be conditioned by rain ”. Toni Pérez stressed that "by carrying out these works during the period of confinement, we avoid the inconvenience that an action at these points would generate for pedestrians and merchants in a moment of normality, and also for drivers in the case of Ruzafa."

He also noted that "the City Council is watching the strict compliance with the sanitary security measures for personnel established by the Government of Spain when decreeing the restart of these activities at the national level."
