Benidorm City Council, through the Water Cycle Department, will modify the stormwater network at Plaza del Torrejó and Virgen del Sufragio Avenue. A work that will involve actions in the subsoil to renew obsolete infrastructures and improve the environment and the urban scene on the surface with universal accessibility, in addition to improvements in mobility. An action that is complemented by the one that will also take place on Pérez Martorell and Purísima Concepción streets.

The action has a budget of more than 200,000 euros and has obtained a subsidy from the Alicante Provincial Council of 60,000 euros. However, before the work can begin, authorization from the Provincial Coastal Service is necessary since it affects the public maritime-terrestrial domain area. The authorization has already been requested and is waiting to be received.

Meanwhile, the City Council will advance the intervention project and the work tendering will begin once the relevant permit from Costas is obtained. The planned execution period is about four months and the intention, as has been said, is to execute it in a complementary way to what will be carried out on Pérez Martorell Street where the drinking water and sewage network is going to be renewed in the section between Martínez Alejos and Pintor Lozano.

Both actions will be undertaken in phases "because it is a nerve centre of traffic for the old town neighbourhood and suppliers and distributors in loading and unloading," explained Mayor Toni Pérez, who visited the streets that will be affected by these works, accompanied by the Councilor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, to learn about the work in detail.

Pérez has indicated that "the renovation of the stormwater network is being carried out at the junction between Plaza del Torrejó, Virgen del Sufragio Avenue, Purísima Concepción Street and a section of Dr. Pérez Martorell." The first mayor added, that it is about “renewing the underground network and improving accessibility in some sections such as Dr. Pérez Martorell and Purísima Concepción streets, which will have a single platform.”

Toni Pérez has stressed that the action "will greatly benefit pedestrian traffic and will also enable better treatment of rainwater in an area where the collectors have a low slope and a serious evacuation problem." In short, he continued, “important interventions that will be carried out in phases and that will begin immediately.”

The works in Virgen del Sufragio and Plaza del Torrejó contemplate the replacement of 135 meters of collector, distributed in two sections. The first, 50 meters long, is located in Plaza del Torrejó and the second, 85 meters long, is on Virgen del Sufragio Avenue. Both will flow into a pumping station that will be built for the evacuation of the first rainwater as well as the washing water from terraces, roads and other possible discharges.
