Benidorm will recognize on October 9 Professor Francisco Amillo with 'Distinció Cultural Ciutat de Benidorm'
The members of the Commission responsible for choosing the person for this award is in this 2016 has been professor and historian Francisco Amillo. This time the meeting was attended by the philologists Rafael Alemany and Pasqual Almiñana; the artisr Miguel Ribes Sogorb; the musician Rafael Domenech; the president of the ACR Barqueta, Francisco Llorens; Joan Fuster on behalf of La Taula de Bon Profit; Ginés Alvarado from Unión Musical; Bartolomé Teuler and Josep Cano from L'Illa Societat Musical; Sergio Jimena on behalf of the Colla of Xirimiters; the director of CEIP Ausias March, Manuel Pozo; Toni Calvo from Benidorm Pilota Club; and Jaume Antón, a man closely linked to the cultural movements of Benidorm. Prior to this meeting, the Commission held a brief meeting with the mayor, Toni Pérez, in which they moved their proposal so that Francisco Amillo receive the 'Distinció Cultural Ciutat de Benidorm' on 9 October. With this proposal, the Commission wishes to recognize the career and contributions of Francisco Amillo to the study and dissemination of Benidorm history. Amillo has developed his career in secondary schools in the city, being director of the IES Beatriu Fajardo Mendoza. The result of its research and compilation was published a few years ago in his work "History of Benidorm, from the origins to 1960 ', which makes a tour of the first settlements and the foundation of the municipality until the tourist boom of the mid last century. Author of several studies and publications, has collaborated in various projects linked to the history of the city.
