Benidorm will install a new pumping system in Elche Park to collect and pump rainwater

Benidorm City Council, through the Water Cycle Department, will begin in the next few days the installation of a new pumping system that will be located in Elche Park to collect and pump rainwater from Almendros or Maravall streets that flows into José Such and the park.

The work to be undertaken is because when there are episodes of heavy rain, the lack of this system of pumping and collecting rainwater causes the accumulation of water in the area and the consequent traffic cuts in Alcalde José Such Street.

José Ramón González de Zárate, Councillor for Water Cycle, explained that the new pumping station will be located next to the park's flowerbeds and close to the playground area, however, "the area where the work will be carried out will be fenced and will not prevent the daily life of people who walk, run or enjoy the park every day."

The work will involve an investment of around 130,000 euros and, as the councillor has specified, "it will be finished before Easter." He has advanced that the real objective is to have it finished before March 16, the day on which the patron saint of Benidorm is commemorated and the traditional offering is made.

Another positive consequence of this work, González de Zárate has detailed, is that the problems that sometimes occur in the wastewater pumping system when there is an accumulation of water on Maravall and Almendros streets will be "improved." "With the work, two problems are solved; On the one hand, traffic jams in Alcalde José Such street are eliminated and, on the other, the pumping of wastewater in Elche Park is improved" concluded the councillor.
