The works of the only pending section, between Leonor Canalejas school and La Parra street, will begin on February 12 and last two weeks

Benidorm will complete the renovation of Ruzafa street waste network

08 February 2018
Benidorm completará la renovación de la red de residuales de Ruzafa

The City Council, through the water concessionaire company -Hidraqua-, will complete the renovation of the wastewater network of Ruzafa Street, where only a small section between the public school Leonor Canalejas and La Parra street remains to be improved. This renovation work involves replacing the current pipeline with a new PVC pipe, which is more resistant to the chemical erosion of the waste and which "will put an end to leaks in the subsoil", as detailed by the councilman of the area, José Ramón González of Zárate.

The cost of the work is 13,618 euros and will be assumed entirely by Hidraqua. The work is scheduled to last two weeks, although "street traffic will not be cut except at specific moments because of the machinery or where work is being done on service crossings". Although the traffic will remain open, the councillor has indicated that the traffic will be "somewhat slower", so he has asked drivers "as far as possible to try to find alternative routes" during the two weeks of work.

De Zárate pointed out that it is "a necessary work", since along Ruzafa Street "passes the most important potable water pipeline", and an aggravation of the leaks of residuals "could cause problems in drinking water". A risk that will be eliminated as soon as the pipeline is renewed in that section of 36 meters in length where up to five connections of different buildings converge.

The councilor stressed that before Easter "all wastewater and rainwater infrastructures of Ruzafa street will be renewed", and recalled that in 2016 the City Council already acted throughout the network between the streets Venus and Escuelas. De Zárate clarified that although initially it was wanted to arrive with this work until La Parra street, the action was limited until Escuelas street  "by traffic problems".
