Benidorm will commemorate the 'Lletres Valencianes Day' with the public reading of the Town Charter for the '700th Anniversary'

Benidorm conmemorará el ‘Dia de les Lletres Valencianes’ con la lectura pública de la Carta de Poblament por el ‘700 Aniversari’

The Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Benidorm City Council, through its Library Network, will commemorate Valencian Literature Day this Friday, November 21st, with a public reading starting at 10:00 AM on the esplanade outside Parc de Foietes, in front of the mural of the former Hotel Selomar. The councillor for the area, Ana Pellicer, announced that this year, “as it could not be otherwise, the event will be dedicated to the commemoration of the 700th Anniversary of the founding of Benidorm,” the theme “on which all the selected readings will focus.”

Ana Pellicer noted that members of the City Council who wish to participate in the public reading will be welcome, as well as 4th-year ESO students from the IES Mediterrània, whose participation she thanked.

The event will consist of alternating readings between participating council members and students from IES Mediterrània. The council members will read excerpts from the Charter of Settlement of Bernat de Sarrià of 1325, the document that legally established Benidorm as a municipality, while the students will recite excerpts from poems in the collection ‘De la Cala al Racó’ by Benidorm native Josep Zaragoza Pérez, known as Pep ‘El Carreró’.

The reading will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reading session led by Eva Andújar for the students of IES Mediterrània around noon. The Councillor for Historical and Cultural Heritage has invited the public to join in this commemoration, “with which we pay tribute to Valencian literature and language, but also to our history as a people.”
