Benidorm unfurls the rainbow flag in support of the LGTBIQ+ community for Pride Day

Benidorm City Council joined the commemoration of International LGBTQ+ Pride Day this Wednesday, celebrated worldwide this Saturday, June 28th, by once again hanging the rainbow flag from the main balcony of City Hall and planning a series of events aimed at raising awareness and promoting the demands of this group. The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, presided over the institutional photo of the members of the City Council with the LGBTQ+ flag, after which the Councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, participated alongside the municipal Equality specialist in a special program broadcast on municipal radio Onda Benidorm dedicated to this International Day.
The Councillor for Equality explained that, in addition to these events, the City Council has organised other Pride-related activities to disseminate and promote equal rights for all people. Specifically, an institutional declaration will be made again, and a motion will be presented to this month's ordinary plenary session, held next Monday, in observance of International LGBTQ+ Pride Day.
Likewise, on Saturday, June 28, the city will illuminate its most iconic spaces, such as the catenary of lights on Levante beach, with rainbow colours to commemorate International Pride Day.
Following this, on Friday, July 4, at 6:00 p.m., an exhibition entitled "Memories Coming Out of the Closet" will open at the City Hall's Espai d'Art (Art Space), a travelling project that is part of the LGBTI Archive of the Valencian Community. The exhibition is organised by El Armario de la Memoria (The Memory Closet), a subsidiary of the Second Vice-Presidency and the Ministry of Equality, and aims to recover and preserve documentary collections on LGBT history in the Valencian Community. This exhibition can be visited until July 17.
Finally, Ángela Zaragozí noted that, in addition to these activities, which coincide with International Pride Day, "in September we're bringing back these celebrations with the popular 'Benidorm Pride,' one of the most well-known Pride weeks and one that attracts the largest national and international audience, and which this year celebrates its 15th anniversary." Therefore, she invited all citizens, regardless of their sexual orientation, to "participate and join in this commemoration, with which we do something as simple as calling for freedom and respect for all people, no matter who they are and whoever they love."
