More than 2,000 students from the Salt de l'Aigüe secondary schools form human chains to make the event visible and proclaim gender equality
Benidorm throws itself into the celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
One more year, Benidorm has thrown itself into the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This Friday morning, coinciding with the event, more than 700 students from the Salt de l'Aigua secondary schools -Pere Mª Orts i Bosch, Bernat de Sarrià, l'Almadrava, and Beatriu Fajardo de Mendoza- have trained in the school complex a great human chain to make this International Day visible and proclaim gender equality.
A human chain to which the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and members of the Municipal Corporation have joined, and nearly 1,300 other students from the four IES have replicated inside their centers. During this action, the students displayed messages against gender violence and proceeded to read a manifesto written by the educational community of the four schools.
In this manifesto, the students have shown their "strongest rejection of the unbearable violence against women", which is "a consequence of discrimination, inequality, the lack of prevention and protection necessary to combat what constitutes a serious violation of human rights".
Likewise, after recalling that so far this year 36 women have been murdered in Spain by their abusers, they have advocated "stopping machismo" from "empathy, understanding, and equality".
In addition to this act, organized by schools in coordination with the Department of Equality, a 25-N commemorative banner was unfurled at noon in Plaza SSMM Reyes de España, at which time the mayor, Toni Pérez, participated; the mayor of Equality; members of the Corporation and neighbors.
Previously, in the Assembly Hall of La Casa del Fester, the talk-colloquium 'Gender violence: definition, origin and consequences', aimed at associations and people interested in this matter, was hosted by José Vicente Vizcaya, promoter of the area of Equality of Benidorm.
The programming continues this afternoon with the protest march organized by the Association of Housewives of Benidorm and which will take place from 6:00 p.m. from the Plaza SSMM Reyes de España.
Documóvil short film exhibition
Also within the program designed by the Department of Equality throughout the week on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, last night a selection of ten short films of the four editions of the 'Documóvil' project, written, directed and recorded by students from Benidorm Secondary Schools. Specifically, works that address the issue of gender violence were exhibited.
